THE INSTRUMENTS OF THE FIRST NOTARY, THE JUDICIAL TRIAL OF THE SECOND NOTARY, THE SECRETS OF THE THIRD AND LAST NOTARY
Édition :
    Lyon
Date :
    1578-1588
    3 vols. folio, contemporary vellum, spine lined in calf, complete with the 3 portraits, framed titles, old manuscript Ex-Libris, a fine copy except for a few minor defects, vol. 1: 16 ff-757 p. 20ff; vol. 2: 9 f.-757 p. 30 ff; vol. 3: 14 ff, 798 p. 42 f.
In a previous catalogue (no. 9-040) concerning the “first Notary,” we noted that this work was missing from many libraries (Berkeley, British Library, Library of Congress, etc.; it is not even cited in Dupin's catalogue), while some authors of ancient law (see particularly Despeisses, Traité des successions testamentaires, Lyon 1652) still cite it almost a century after it was written. Here we have a very rare, homogeneous, and complete set of three volumes: the first devoted to the law of obligations, the second to procedural law, and the third concerning public law, with highly important analyses of both theories of sovereignty and relations between different nations. It seems to us that a modern study of each volume would confirm the major role these texts played in the evolution of French law. This work is available for consultation by appointment.
