One of François Dumont's major works will undoubtedly remain his systematic edition of the inventory of decrees of the Privy Council during the reigns of Henry III and Henry IV. This work was intended to follow Noël Valois's inventory of decrees of the Council of State during the reign of Henry IV. We possess the copy that the author kept for himself. In the foreword to the first volume, François Dumont planned, after the publication of the entire corpus, to undertake a study of the King's Privy Council, but his death prevented him from completing this project. We have here all the published volumes as well as Noël Valois's inventory of decrees of the Council of State, which is preceded by one of the most fundamental studies devoted to this institution at the beginning of the 17th century.
