A captivating and rare study of this public service, structured around three main points. The first is a historical description of the institution. The second, and most substantial, part is devoted to the responsibilities of the Fine Arts administration during the contemporary period. Finally, in the last section, which also serves as a conclusion, Boussu outlines the evolution that the organization of this administration should take, particularly by encouraging the participation of private companies in the development of the fine arts. This suggestion is reminiscent of the role that patronage plays today in the dissemination, preservation, and promotion of works of art. The reproduction of the Fine Arts budget for 1877 is also of interest. Finally, the reprinting of several key texts in the evolution of this institution is a welcome addition. Very rare.
