    folio, bound in almond green suede, spine with 5 raised bands, gilt title on a plate in burgundy morocco, text in 2 columns, initial letters, (some minor defects on the covers and spine, small damage to the headcap, small loss to one edge, loss at the top of the title page, ink stain in the margin at the top of the first leaf, very slight acidification in places), very good overall condition, (5 leaves)-2396 col.
    (Missing from Dupin, missing from the National Library of France). A rare and exceptional text, one of the first two legal dictionaries ever written (along with that of John Calvin—a namesake), published in 1598. It is written primarily in Latin, except for certain vulgar terms translated into German. The Latin is comprehensible. There are numerous entries for each term (14 entries for the term "obligation" in its various senses). The last word defined is "zyzania," a term originally referring to darnel and, by extension, to heretics in canon law. Extremely rare, especially in this condition.
