(Dupin no. 917). Maynard's rulings enjoyed considerable success in the 17th and 18th centuries. They were translated into Latin and published in Germany in 1660, and received a new and final edition in 1751. The work presented here is part of the second edition, published a year after the first. The bookseller's lengthy foreword, which appears at the beginning of the first volume, explains that the essential purpose of this second edition was to correct the errors that had crept into the previous one. This edition is missing from the National Library. The value of Maynard's rulings lies in the fact that, despite the title of the work, all the decisions of the Parliament of France are commented on and compared with those of the Parliament of Toulouse, thus providing a comprehensive overview of French law at the very end of the 16th century. More anecdotally, the work contains a complete analysis of the trial of Martin Guerre (vol. 1, p. 237 ff.) and an account of the doctrinal reflections it aroused.
