in-8, brown calfskin, spine with 5 raised bands decorated with gilt compartments and tools, gilt rolls on the edges, speckled edges, (upper headcap missing, joints split, abrasions, rubbing, corners bumped with small missing pieces, paper yellowed with acidification at the beginning of the volume), good condition overall, (35 f.)-CCCXCV p.
A very rare impression by the important Parisian publisher Galliot du Pré (missing from the BNF, Harvard, Berkeley, van Zyl) of a commentary on the Justinian Code, the only other edition of which we have been able to locate is at the BSB München (J. Rom.C.119) in a Lyon edition of 1530. Its major interest lies in the fact that it predates the work of the Renaissance humanists, and in particular the Florentine edition, thus constituting a testimony of the medieval conception of Roman law.
