2 vols. in 1 vol. very thick folio, full contemporary ochre suede, title in ink on spine with 6 raised bands, two-colored title page, ruled text, engraving as frontispiece with the motto “Hanc aciem sola retundit virtus” [Only good actions dull this blade], (boards rubbed with scuffs, 1 joint split for 6 cm, 2 tears on the spine, edges and corners bumped with losses to the edges and corners as well as to the edge of the boards, flyleaf partially torn and detached, light dampstaining, text block slightly detached from the binding), despite these defects a perfectly consultable copy, index-796 p. [doubles] -index.
Regarding the content of this work, one need only read the precise description provided by J. Krynen in the Dictionnaire historique des juristes français (Paris, PUF, 2007, p. 387). In short, all specialists agree that this work is major, on par with J. Bouteiller's Somme rurale (1603) or C.-A. Bourdot de Richebourg's Nouveau coutumier général (1724). This text, of which only one edition exists—the 1620 edition being merely a reprint—remains a key reference in comparative customary law. Very rare. Dupin, ref. 1181.
