    A. Bruneau has been burdened since his own time with two characteristics on which his contemporaries unanimously agree. The first is to the author's credit: everyone praises his erudition, which he puts at the service of his analyses, and the breadth of his knowledge, which he uses to great effect in his treatises (see Jousse, Traité de la justice criminelle, 1771, col. 527). The second, alas, constitutes the Achilles' heel of his works: Dupin (ref. 1699), Moreri (Le grand dictionnaire historique, 1759, Vol. II, p. 329), and Jousse (see below) all agree in recognizing in the author an unusual disorganization in his expositions, teeming with “an infinite number of remarks, observations, and quotations on subjects that have no relation to the [treatise].” However, it was not until Héricourt, who drew much information from Bruneau, that a new treatise on the subject appeared (Le traité de la vente des immobiliers par décret, 1727).
