“Acts of notoriety” are jurisdictional decisions of the courts which, while not having the force of rulings issued by the Supreme Courts, permanently establish the doctrine of the court or tribunal on a specific point. This collection, compiled by lawyers and attorneys general at the Parliament of Provence, is an important source for local law and, in particular, for the interpretation of customary law, since these acts of notoriety were rarely recorded. Dupin, ref. 1404.
