This text was the first published by Henrion de Pansey after the Revolution on this new institution. Its success was phenomenal, with seven editions published in less than 15 years. After the author's death, Mr. Rozet, a lawyer at the Court of Cassation, published a new, updated edition. This institution lasted until 1958, when it was replaced by the District Court. However, in 2002, the creation of local courts partially assumed the role of the justices of the peace.
