It is no longer necessary to explain the value of this text except to emphasize the importance of Dumoulin's notes for his contribution to the interpretation of customary law. And while Dumoulin is often criticized for his "archaic" approach to customs, fundamentally he remains an extremely modern commentator, undoubtedly the founder of French civil law. These ideas were later largely adopted by Pothier, ultimately, albeit with some modifications, in the Civil Code of 1804. This is the first edition devoted exclusively to the Custom of Paris and its commentary. Dupin, ref. 1267-19.
