Gaetano Filangieri, Giuseppe Compagnoni, and Pellegrino Rossi are indeed noteworthy for having been, each in a different field, what can legitimately be called a pioneer. Gaetano Filangieri (1753-1788), in his work entitled "Science of Legislation," laid the foundations of legislative drafting and discussed the possibility of constitutional review. Giuseppe Compagnoni (1754-1833) authored the first treatise on constitutional law in 1797. Pellegrino Rossi (1787-1848), for his part, held the first Chair of Constitutional Law in France in 1834. Moreover, all three maintained close ties with French legal doctrine, either influencing it or adopting it as a model. Although important figures in contemporary European constitutional thought, they have not been the subject of extensive studies in France. This book aims, through exchanges primarily between legal historians and constitutional scholars, to address this deficiency in French legal research.
