    Didier Martin summarizes the work accomplished by Duclos, who died at the age of thirty-eight, in his eulogy: “It took his energy, his intellectual stature, and his unfathomable tenacity to dare to take up the challenge of a thesis devoted to the ‘general theory of opposability.’ The experiment had never been attempted in this form; it is likely that it will never be again: the author exhausted the subject in an imperial manner.”
