The final section, devoted to the contemporary period (from 1914 to the present day), is particularly noteworthy. Economic history is considered in its entirety, and its connection to population phenomena is explained with great clarity. A dense and well-balanced chapter is dedicated to the problem of global population growth; the causes and extent of this trend are clearly presented, as are the solutions to be considered. In this way, the problem of birth control, in particular, is placed in its true light.\" The bibliographical references at the end of the chapter clearly demonstrate that L. and G. are well-versed in the works of Sauvy, Fourastie, Chevalier, etc., as well as the various publications and works of INED. Perhaps, however, one might consider that the section devoted to the problems of the developing world in the chapter on “unequal growth” is somewhat brief, given the current importance of this issue.
