(Dupin no. 917). Maynard's rulings enjoyed considerable success in the 17th and 18th centuries. They were translated into Latin and published in Germany in 1660, and received a new and final edition in 1751. The fundamental interest of Maynard's rulings lies in the fact that, despite the title of the work, all the decisions of the Parliament of France are commented on and compared with those of the Parliament of Toulouse, thus providing a very complete overview of French law in the mid-17th century. Christian Chêne points out (p. 265) that Maynard and Catellan appear as the two principal legal scholars of the Parliament of Toulouse and that Maynard was still one of the most frequently consulted in the second half of the 18th century, even though the first edition dates from around 1600. This is explained by the high reliability of the reported judgments and a very nuanced doctrinal discussion by the best authors of the late 16th and 17th centuries (Charondas, Cujas, Coquille, etc.). More anecdotally, the work contains a complete analysis of the trial of Martin Guerre and an account of the doctrinal reflections it provoked. Latest edition.
