We present here a copy from the latest edition for the first four volumes. \"Initially placed under the patronage of President Mathieu Molé (a dedication in Latin is addressed to him), the collection is the work of a succession of lawyers from the Parliament of Paris. Agreeing to overcome his modesty at the request of some of his friends (the printer to the reader, Vol. III, 1652), J. Du Fresne, Lord of Preaulx, published, in 1646 (DBF, entry \"Du Fresne\"), a first volume which received a favorable reception. This is because it is the first collection of decrees of the Parliament of Paris, at least in French; For two Latin collections had previously appeared, one in 1559 (Poenis Lucii placita summae apud Gallos Curiae, Lutetiae), the other in 1604 (Annaei Roberti res judicatae), admittedly translated into French in 1622; but they lacked both the scope and the ambition of the Journal launched by J. Du Fresne. Indeed, Du Fresne (and his successors would follow the same approach) intended not only to gather a multitude of decisions, but also to illuminate them in terms of facts and legal arguments, reproducing them verbatim along with the lawyers' pleadings. This was the fruit of immense labor, which explains the relative gap between the chronological period studied and the publication date of the corresponding volume. Du Fresne having disappeared (1675), Jamet de La Guessière, who possessed the latter's manuscripts (Le Libraire au lecteur, Vol. I, 1757), continued the compilation, much to the public's eager desire, with the same concern for accuracy and fidelity, and with the same success, as evidenced by the frequent reprints of the first volumes. These reprints were carefully revised and corrected (whether in terms of dates or the content of the judgments), and augmented with new regulations and new questions decided since the previous publication. (Robert Granderoute) The value of this text lies in its being less dense than a collection of judgments in the strict sense, and in providing a synthetic overview of legal solutions. It is clear and followed by a substantial index.
