As the preliminary observations emphasize, "to apply the Tariff correctly, it is not enough to know its provisions; the person entrusted with its application must also be able to assess the usefulness or uselessness of the procedural acts subject to the fee: for the disputes that have sometimes arisen concerning the statements of costs must be attributed solely to this difficulty." After attempting to answer some questions regarding the nature of the proceedings and the necessity of charging a particular act or procedure, the authors present here a work comprising a table of over 200 pages outlining each fee before the Courts, Tribunals, or Cantons, for each type of act according to the matters covered by the subject of the dispute. The fees charged, particularly for the jurisdiction of the Court of Paris as of February 16, 1807, are meticulously detailed on pages 245 to 304. This is the case, for example, for the fees of court bailiffs (pp. 296-297), experts (pp. 297-299), and notaries (pp. 300-301). Ultimately, this is a very instructive read, especially given the current challenges to the fees charged by regulated professions in the 21st century.
