"The aim is to clarify, for managers exclusively, the methods of personnel policy: how can a company with defined production targets ensure that its means of production—not in terms of machines or unskilled labor, but in terms of managers—are aligned with these targets? For estimating staffing needs, the various methods of analyzing and evaluating individual positions are presented, along with compensation techniques based on these methods. The link between changes in the company's organizational chart and the nature of different positions is also outlined. In estimating resources, the focus is primarily on selection and evaluation techniques: a study of promotion, general principles governing career progression (in which salary changes play a significant role), and the scope and methods of training. Contrary to what often occurs, the distinction between company positions and the individuals holding those positions is very clear." This is the main merit of this work, which is otherwise weaker in its presentation of promotion and training; one can regret in particular that no mention is made of the evolution of the labor market outside the company: this is now an important concern for the personnel departments of certain companies.
