    “The Civil Code in French Verse, by Amédée Pons-Euzières, a lawyer in Aix, which appeared in 1882, is a perfect emulator, in alexandrines, of Decomberousse’s, and (…) even more sensational, due to its appearance seventy years later. (…) The work is undoubtedly a rarity: while it can be found in the catalogs of the Bibliothèque Nationale, the Law School Library, Massachusetts, and the municipal library of Grasse, it is absent, on the other hand, from the libraries of the Law Faculties of Paris and Aix-en-Provence, and, even more surprisingly, from the Bibliothèque Méjanes. (…) Unlike his predecessors, Pons-Euzières, a latecomer, never wrote a preface informing us of his intentions. The project, his method, his literary references, remain entirely shrouded in mystery. This silence is, moreover, perfectly in keeping with the laconic style of the versifier.” It is likely that Pons-Euzières considered that his undertaking was sufficiently justified by the prestige and importance, both practical and cultural, of the Civil Code.
