    By the eminent professor of the University of Leiden, these studies of a historical nature. “Besides three volumes of writings on private law, besides a whole series of works and editions published independently, “the first jurist of the Netherlands” (cf. the obituary of R. Feenstra in vol. 72, 1955 Rom. Abt. p. 504ff. of these Ztschr.), but also an admirable quantity of studies on the history of law). During his lifetime, he selected and ordered his works: while the present first volume, edited by R. Feenstra and HFWD Fischer, two of Meijers' colleagues at the Faculty of Leiden, contains his works on the history of Western European law in general, and on that of France and Spain, volume 2 will present those on Dutch, Belgian, and German law, and volume 3 those on the history of Roman law in the Middle Ages, which was a specialty of the deceased. He published in six living languages, and it is in this format that he will be reprinted; only a few Dutch essays have been translated into French.
