A distinguished magistrate and Justice of the Peace, who died for France in 1915, and an eminent jurist, Augustin, known as Albert, Le Noir de Tourteauville, is the author of several authoritative works in the field of legal doctrine. We will mention in particular: *On the Protection of the Elderly*, an in-depth study of the law of December 23, 1874 (this work had a second edition in 1898 and was supported by a subscription from the Ministry of the Interior); and *On the Protection of Public Health* (1903, a very well-documented commentary on the laws of February 15, 1902, and April 7, 1903, also supported by a subscription from the Ministry of Justice). The present commentary is a substantial work, supported by subscriptions from the Ministries of Justice and War, which was written and published to counter the anti-patriotic theories that were being infiltrated even into the barracks. The author has also contributed to numerous collections of case law. Rare.
