“This collaborative work offers critical and constructive perspectives of paramount importance on the issue of industrial decentralization in France. Mr. Gabriel Dessus, a seasoned expert, has undertaken the theoretical discussion of the problem. Concrete examples, analyzed by two geographers whose names are guarantees of competence, follow. The collection, capable of reaching a very wide audience, confirms the reputation and usefulness of the FNSP publications. (…) These three studies are therefore not a plea for industrial decentralization, an appealing concept certainly, but one whose application is extremely delicate. Is a comprehensive plan even possible? This is far from certain, as industrial absorption capacities vary considerably from region to region. Since the social structure of our country is hardly conducive to large-scale relocations, in our view, it would be preferable to prioritize the experiments already attempted, some of which are undeniably successful, and even more so to modernize our industrial infrastructure locally, for the greater good of all sectors of activity.” » (P. Guyot, Revue de géographie n° 2/1950, p. 139 et seq.).
