A highly topical analysis of the importance and role of Ruthenia in international relations: “Ruthenia’s territory, by virtue of its geographical position, could be chosen by the Comintern as a corridor and starting point for the Bolshevization of Europe. [...] Indeed, Ruthenia lies at the heart of Eastern Europe and cuts like a wedge into the territory of the Magyars. The Magyars, deprived by the Treaty of Trianon of the strategic bulwark formed by the Carpathian Mountains, and offering their enemies the vast Danube plain without any natural obstacles as a battlefield, would be unable, in the event of a Bolshevik invasion, to defend themselves or save the peoples of Western Europe, as they did in the Middle Ages during the frequent invasions of barbarians and infidels.” [...] For the salvation and peace of Europe, this Czech-Russian corridor must be eliminated by detaching Ruthenia from Czechoslovakia, thus creating direct contact between Poland and Hungary. This would render a service to the whole of Europe and also to Christian civilization, threatened by red Pan-Slavism. It is worth repeating that this sad and delicate political situation of Ruthenia is, like the sword of Damocles, a permanent peril to European peace” (p. 81 et seq.).
