    Dupin (no. 1254) prefers the 1771 edition of this work because of the additions it contains. In reality, Dupin does not seem to be aware of the present edition, which already contains all the developments added by Boucher d'Argis, who, after Ferrière's death, undertook a substantial revision of the text. As an aside, let us mention the entry for 'pot de vin' (wine pot), which referred to "a gift or favor that the tenant, independently of the rent, gives to the landlord or the intermediary," and which was subject to precise contractual stipulations, not being considered, at the time, as a hidden and criminally punishable form of remuneration.
