(Grandin I, p. 12). A captivating text in which the renowned historian reinterprets Roman law and the early Middle Ages to explore the origins of French law. This text must, of course, be considered within the broader context of Romanticism's reflections on the Gallic or, conversely, Frankish origins of French civilization, and it constitutes, as far as law is concerned, the magnum opus on this subject, given that classical jurists were far more inclined to exegesis of the Civil Code than to such research. We find here his epic style and his penchant for curiosity, particularly regarding the role of symbolism in this ancient legal system.
