    “A monumental task,” says Professor Lambert in the preface, “and that is precisely what it is. The author has, in fact, attempted to harmonize the accounts of most of the companies in the Liège region in order to trace the evolution of the region's industrial structures since the war. This means that the analysis contained in this work operates on two levels, which the author strives to connect: it aims to use the private accounting records of companies not for private management purposes, but for analysis or, at least, description on a broader scale, that of the sector of activity and, above all, the region. The first analysis, by far the most important in this case, is therefore accounting-based.
