    2 vols. in-4, full brown calf, gilt titles & volumes on burgundy morocco boards, spines richly decorated with gilt fleurons, friezes and lacework, gilt roll on the edges, boards framed with blind-stamped fillets, headbands, initials, vignettes, marbled edges, (binding slightly worn with light abrasions and some stains, headcaps damaged, edges slightly rubbed, rare foxing, vol. I: some stained and slightly torn leaves), fairly good condition, 928 / 860 p.
    While D. Jousse is often considered the principal commentator on the 1669 ordinances, this is most likely due to a lack of familiarity with other texts. Indeed, in terms of format, Gallon's work is considerably more substantial (two quarto volumes compared to one duodecimo volume). But above all, in terms of content, through his observations, his sources, and his analysis of texts dating back to 1115, Gallon's lectures constitute the first forestry code. In particular, one will appreciate the very thorough study of timber according to its intended use (sale, construction—royal or otherwise, shipbuilding, etc.). (Dupin, ref. 1142)
