    15 volumes in-8, full mottled fawn calf, titles and volumes on smooth spines decorated with gilt fleurons and fillets, mottled edges, stamped bookplate, (binding rubbed with sometimes fairly light abrasions or missing leather, headcaps sometimes damaged, gilts slightly faded, corners bumped, some foxing in the interior), interior well preserved and quite fresh.
    One of the most important treatises on civil law from the early 19th century. J.-L. Halpérin demonstrates that, although left unfinished, this treatise surpasses all its predecessors in scope and established Toullier's reputation. The author emerges as an Enlightenment thinker committed to individual liberty, and his natural law conceptions led him to transcend the narrow confines of a purely exegetical commentary on the Civil Code. The successive publication of the volumes of this treatise was one of the major topics of debate in the journal Thémis, and many of the articles in this journal are devoted to discussing the merits or debatable aspects of the work. It is rare to find an edition with such consistent publication dates.
