“Mr. Anastopoulos’s thesis (…) is a very important work. Behind a title that Professor Amselek, in the preface to the book, rightly points out is perhaps too modest, unfolds a meticulous and comprehensive study of public finances in the main federal countries: essentially the Federal Republic of Germany, Austria, Australia, Brazil, Canada, the United States, India, Mexico, Switzerland, the USSR, and Yugoslavia. It should be noted that this fine book does not simply juxtapose the current positive solutions of these different countries, but strives to place them within their historical development, such that the work constitutes both a kind of universal history of federal finances and a work of comparative law.” (…) By the thoroughness of the work, the abundance of documentation gathered, the clarity of the exposition, and finally, the significance of the demonstration achieved, Mr. Anastopoulos's book stands out from the very best. Its merit has just been recognized by the awarding of the prize that the French Center for Comparative Law bestows annually upon the best thesis in comparative law. While it is true that French legal thought has always been recognized and welcomed by Greek jurists, Mr. Anastopoulos eloquently and skillfully demonstrates, following other celebrated authors from his country, that the reverse is now well established, which constitutes the guarantee of a genuine and fruitful collaboration for the knowledge and promotion of the Law.” (Y. Gaudemet, RIDC No. 3/1981, p. 869 et seq.).
