“This voluminous treatise on intellectual property rights, part of the Belgian Novels series, covers, among other things, patents, designs, unfair competition, trademarks, and trade secrets. (…) Mr. Pierre Poirier, a lawyer at the Brussels Court of Appeal, undertook to present to the readers of the Novels the solutions adopted in Belgium to copyright law issues. (…) Overall, Mr. Poirier’s work constitutes a valuable addition to the legal literature on copyright law, because it takes into account the most recent case law, something that older treatises by Wauwermans, Destrée, etc., could not do. The study on scientific property (Intellectual Property Rights, Volume II, pp. 1017–1035) is the work of Mr. Van der Haeghen.” This is a problem that, a few years ago, gave rise to extensive discussions, and which is hardly mentioned today, since no practical solution has been found. The author, who has considerable expertise as a consulting engineer and professor, provides an excellent overview of the draft laws prepared so far and the related work. He rightly concludes that the concept of scientific property has not yet reached the necessary level of maturity for definitive implementation in positive law, but that the question must remain open so that further research and investigations can advance it. (Revue Le droit d'Auteur, no. 7/1936, p. 84).
