Although a disciple of Savigny, Bluntschli's general theory clearly rests on the submission of the State to the law, which is reminiscent of the theory of self-limitation. One can also already sense in this text the scope of the reflection that the author would later develop (this work was written in 1850) in public international law. Furthermore, it is known that the author was the staunchest supporter of the theory of the State as a legal person. A rare distinction.
