folio, full mottled brown calf, spine with 5 raised bands, very ornate, tan morocco binding, mottled edges, two-tone red/black title page, fine tailpieces, (boards rubbed with small tears, lower spine blunt with small tear, edges and corners worn), interior very fresh, 3 ff.-778 / 3 ff.-371 p. + index.
This general treatise on canon law, with explanations based primarily on the decretals of Gregory IX, enjoyed great success and went through several editions within a few years. It is indeed remarkably clear in its exposition (see, in particular, Book V, devoted to criminal law, which is developed over more than 150 pages). The work is also presented in a beautiful Venetian printing.
