(BNF E1192, Berkeley BQV267 M46, Schulte III, p. 477). Menoch was a professor of law in Pisa, Padua, and Pavia, and died in 1607. His works were reprinted until the 18th century, and his influence was widespread, including in France (see Chêne, p. 273, which indicates that Menoch was used by professors in Toulouse for their teaching). The interest of the text presented here lies particularly in the first part, which defines the notions of “jurisdictio,” “imperium” within jurisdictio, and “potestate” in both the secular and ecclesiastical worlds. It naturally includes discussions of the conditions under which the Holy Roman Emperor, the King of Spain, and the King of France recognized the jurisdictio, imperium, and power of the Pope. Also noteworthy is the final section devoted to the Church's immunities, particularly in criminal cases. Overall, an important text.
