2 vols. folio, manuscript bound in half brown calf, smooth spine decorated, (worn covers, worn corners, faded edges), 671 / unnumbered (approx. 700 p.).
These two volumes, comprising over 1200 pages, collect legal opinions prepared by Maître Solon, a lawyer in Auch, between 1806 and 1833. These texts are arranged alphabetically by subject matter (particularly property law, wills, contract interpretation, and also some opinions for proceedings before the Court of Cassation, including the establishment of grounds for appeal). The second volume concludes with a collection of legal opinions prepared by Toulouse lawyers (Dorivat, Quinquivit) from the 18th century, and most notably, an autograph opinion prepared by Furgole, the prominent 18th-century Toulouse jurist. It is clear that this is an exceptional collection for the study of legal practice at the beginning of the 19th century, and more generally it is also a collection of documents which provides very rich sources of information on how practitioners combined, in the years immediately following the Civil Code, the rules from the old law and the new laws.
