Boitard was one of the great hopes of early 19th-century criminal law: born in 1801, he was appointed professor after passing the competitive examination of 1833. His lectures were a great success, but he died in 1835 and was therefore only published posthumously by G. de Linage. This is one of the most remarkable works of the School of Exegesis in Criminal Law, which has seen numerous re-editions, the most recent by Faustin Hélie, like this one. Hélie naturally left his mark on it, making it one of the most essential texts of the period on the subject.
