Pierre Grégoire was one of the eminent members of the Pont-à-Mousson school. He held the chair of civil law there until his death in 1597. He is also known for having refuted Dumoulin's opinion against the Council of Trent (1584). This text constitutes his major work, last published in 1606 (but partially reprinted later under other titles). It is a general treatise on matters of law, persons, and actions. The passages on public figures (emperors, kings, etc.) are particularly noteworthy, as they offer a valuable exposition of monarchomach doctrine. Rare.
