Fauchet, the first president of the Court of the Mint, was one of the first great French philologists of the 16th century, and this text, of great rarity and of the quality of du Tillet's best works, reflects the same concern for historical accuracy. The first volume contains studies on the King and the entire royal staff (including all the domestic officers: chamberlains, butlers, stewards, equerries, mayors of the palace, etc.). It continues with a text on the origin of all the noble dignities. The second volume explores the origin of chivalry, the various heraldic practices, and concludes with a study of all the weaponry used by the French in their wars (a study of armor, prohibited weapons, ballistic weapons, etc.).
