Under this title, the last collection of "Institutes" published under the Ancien Régime. Chêne (p. 195) emphasizes that this work originated from a handwritten course and that its success led Julien to publish it. It is characterized, he continues, by a concern for order and clarity, manifested in a greater freedom from Justinian's plan. As Chêne also notes, it is an uncommon work because, published shortly before the Revolution, it had only limited circulation. Our copy contains 12 pages of addenda on azure paper.
