in-12, marbled calf, smooth spine decorated with blind-tooled fillets and fleurons, brown morocco title page, red edges, blind-tooled fillets on the edges, (upper joint of the front cover very slightly split, corners very slightly blunted), a very nice copy despite the aforementioned defects, XVI-462 p.
This well-known work deserves more than mere success as a curiosity related to its subject matter: the various ways in which women can be seduced and the resulting legal consequences. It is valuable for two other reasons. First, because it constitutes a precious compendium of all the old legal solutions, thanks to an extensive discussion of the rulings and a specially developed index. Second, because it reflects a very liberal view of the late Ancien Régime on this issue, a view that would only be partially adopted by the drafters of the Civil Code.
