This text enjoyed considerable success at the end of the 18th century, particularly because it provided a concise overview of the entire body of contract law, both civil and commercial (see the sections on promissory notes and other negotiable instruments). Today, it offers us important insights into the coherence of contract law at the end of the Ancien Régime. It is also worth noting that it is one of the few texts from this period to constitute a comprehensive and readily accessible treatise.
