Proudhon continued to teach in Dijon even after the law faculties had been suspended, and in 1794 he published a course on French legislation and jurisprudence (see MDD cat. no. 5-17). However, he interrupted this course at the end of the first part, on the status of persons. In 1809, he updated this text without mentioning a “second edition.” Once again, he did not delve further into the Civil Code, but the sections he devoted to the introductory title remain famous for their precision and quality. As Dupin (no. 1392) points out, “the way in which Proudhon treated his subject makes one regret that he did not continue.” The author subsequently published works on other parts of the Code, but without achieving a cohesive text. Very rare.
