A collection of all the ordinances established under the direction of D'Aguesseau, including in particular those concerning donations and wills, but also the famous "Code of Forgery" as well as other provisions relating to criminal law and criminal procedure. In total, a very comprehensive corpus, despite its size, of royal law between 1730 and 1750. Of particular note are a 1731 declaration concerning the "Norman fraud," which involved selling a fief and the beneficial ownership of the same land separately to evade certain taxes—an amusing anticipation of the concept of abuse of rights in the 18th century. A delightful, small-format book (6.5 x 13 cm) designed to be easily carried in a pocket at the Palace.
