folio, brown calfskin, spine with raised bands, title page in burgundy morocco, marbled edges, rolls on the edges, red and black title pages, vignettes and initial letters, (skin scratches and scuffs on the covers, a few isolated wormholes on the binding, dampstaining and pitting), 6 leaves-735 pages.
This treatise on succession has always been considered the fundamental work on the subject, and some authors have compared its contribution to that of Domat in general civil law. Ourliac and Malafosse emphasize (p. 90) that “the best ancient treatises on this subject are those of Denis le Brun and Pothier.” Once again, Dupin is found wanting, as he only announced a second edition in 1709. This edition is, moreover, one of the last published independently before this treatise became Volume 1 of the “works,” beginning in 1714.
