In his work on the great interpreters of the Civil Code, E. Gaudemet speaks of Valette in these terms: “His works are of rare quality, both for the scrupulous scholarly conscience that animates them and for the beauty of their form, and for the reflection one discerns in them of an admirable character…. He wrote less than we would wish today, yet enough for this work, in its small scope, to be a masterpiece.” Here we have the ORIGINAL EDITION of the notes he had prepared on Proudhon's treatise on persons, which he developed and coordinated to provide the present text. It was published in a second edition in 1879 after his death under the auspices of Messrs. Herold and Lyon-Caen. A text as rare as it is sought after.
