    Ordinances of Louis XIV, King of France and Navarre, of the month of May 1680, concerning regulations on the salt tax, followed by the Ordinance of Louis XIV, King of France and Navarre, concerning regulations on several duties levied on his farms and on all duties in general, followed by the Ordinance of Louis XIV, King of Navarre, concerning regulations on the five major farms, followed by the General Tariff of Duties on Exit and Entry into the Kingdom and the Provinces in which offices are not established, order that duties be levied on all goods and foodstuffs.

    A valuable collection devoted to the reform of tax law under Louis XIV. Regarding the salt tax (gabelle), we know that the published ordinance, supplemented in 1685, 1703, and 1706, attested both to the unification of the salt tax system and to the discrimination between provinces, as it established six tax zones with different regimes. As for the 1664 tariff, it constitutes the first attempt at lower customs unification undertaken by Colbert. This tariff remained in effect until the Revolution (Sueur, Vol. II, p. 355).
