This interesting pamphlet recounts one of the many conspiracies uncovered in 1820, coinciding with the emergence of the Affair of the Four Sergeants of La Rochelle and the French Bazaar Conspiracy. In fact, the present trial was linked to this latter affair. The author was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for "unapproved proposal to foment a crime aimed at the destruction or change of government and the order of succession to the throne." The main interest of this work lies in its demonstration of the procedures employed by the Court of Peers in such matters, as well as the methods used to report on trials in order to prevent the accused from using the court as a platform for their own agendas.
