Under this somewhat general title, one finds a series of studies on the Post and Messenger services at the end of the Ancien Régime, the Bridges and Roads department in the Dauphiné region during the same period, and the jurisdiction of the Intendant of Paris, one of the earliest elements of administrative justice under the Ancien Régime. Of particular note is J. Phylitis's study on the Post and Messenger services, which, in 150 pages and based on considerable archival research, provides a major source on the history of administrative contracts, the Postal Commission being notably responsible for managing the granting and termination of concessions and leases. Chapter II, on the confrontation between the jurisdiction of this commission and the ordinary courts, deserves to be more widely read than it currently receives.
