This treatise synthesizes Carré's earlier work on civil procedure. It is one of the most important 19th-century works on procedure, which F. Laferrière ranks among the foremost of "The Glories of the Country" (History of French Law, Vol. 2, p. 403). Carré was a professor at Rennes and a colleague of Toullier at this faculty, which produced many of the most eminent legal scholars of the 19th century.
