Like the treatise on sales, this one is particularly valuable for the author's highly unconventional reflections. Note the opening lines of the magnificent preface: “Exchange will occupy no more space here than in the Civil Code. If, among all commutative contracts, it plays the greatest role in centuries of decadence and barbarity, it becomes, in periods of social progress, one of the least frequent in domestic civil relations, one of the most alien to the movement of property.” We must also highlight the author's numerous borrowings from the doctrines of ancient law. This copy is from the first edition.
