This remarkable collection concerns the famous case of the confiscation of the Orléans family's property by the decrees of 1852. It includes, in particular, all the preparatory work carried out both in the 1830s and following the Revolution of 1848 (Dupin, Berryer, Jules Favre), as well as extensive consultations with the most eminent lawyers at the Council of State and the Court of Cassation of the time. These consultations aimed to demonstrate that the decrees ultimately enacted should fall under the jurisdiction of the ordinary courts and that, contrary to the most established jurisprudence of the Council of State, the action for recovery of property could not be subject to a jurisdictional conflict. As we know, the government decided otherwise, and this case was one of the rare instances in which a government commissioner was overruled by the executive branch (see Reverchon, Les décrets du 22 juillet 1852, Paris 1871), leading to his resignation.
